Closing in on Epic Title Drought

We soon may be entering unprecedented territory.  No North Dakota hockey program or fan base has experienced a title drought longer than about sixteen years.

LONGEST CONSECUTIVE SEASONS WITHOUT A TITLE:

16:    1964-1979     [Thorndycraft (1), Peters (2), Selman (2), Bjorkman (10), Gasparini (1)]

15:    2001-2015     [blais (4), Hakstol (11)]

12:    1947-1958     [Jamieson (1), Norman (2), Purper (7), Renfrew (1), May (1)]

9:      1988-1996     [Gasparini (7), Blais (2)]

4:      1983-1986     [Gasparini (4)]

3:      1960-1962     [Thorndycraft (3)]

2:      1998-1999     [blais (2)]

1:      1981              [Gasparini (1)]

And "no", this is not another "Fire Hak!" thread, so let's not make it about something that it's not.  But this flat out sucks.

We're pretty spoiled.

No kidding, we're in it every year, we aren't floundering around at the bottom of a so so conference. Last year was a perfectly played rush that resulted in a bounce that wouldn't happen 9 out of 10 times. This year they guys were forced to focus on a line and let up with some of the lesser known players. Also we need to lay off the pipe, yes Oconnor is what 6-8 on skates so there wasn't much room to shoot at. The guys fought back and yes the box says 5-3 but really 4 to 3. Plus as I watched and listened once again maybe a lot of home cooking in Boston.

if your not gonna count an empty netter against don't count the goalie pretty much scoring one in his own net so 4-2 is a little more accurate whichs means in the last three ff games we have scored 0, 1, and 2 goals (two of those three belong to a walk on iirc)...just give muss...oops hak i mean a little more time and he will figure this all out....

One of these Sioux teams that gets to the FF has to get and build a lead. Everyone we're playing from behind and taking penalties for the most part. (except the 2007 FF)

exactly...it would be nice to be the sharper of the two teams and actually have a lead and play AGGRESSIVE!!!!

We could wait 30 years to make a frozen four like providence maybe people would be happy than? :whistling:

its really sad to see a lot of people on this board "claim to be a die hard fan" but yet would throw the program under the bus for ONE TITLE....

Can a comparison be made in every sport, that domination by one or a few programs weakens as the sport itself develops. Or is that parity in a nutshell. If we won every year, it would be like winning a jv championship because the haters would want the program moved to AHL status. Sort of like the threat to Olympic womens hockey, domination by Canada and US is perceived as detrimental and may cause it to be dropped.

I'm starting to wonder if the pursuit of #8 has something to do with being behind the eight-ball, so to speak.  Here we are complaining about going national titleless for 15 years.  Maybe it's chasing #8 that's the problem.  Michigan, which won six of the first nine titles, then captured #7 in 1964.  The Wolverines then had to wait another 32 years--count them--until winning #8 in 1996.  Just a thought.  Nevertheless, college hockey parity is indeed here to stay, and this is one of the prices that the established college hockey powers, UND included, have to pay.

With regards to the success with walk on players, you could suggest a theory that coach's ability to make top players from walk on players is a selling point for recruits that I am fairly certain scout schools with a "what can you do for me" question as one of their criteria.

As a die hard fan I want to win ONE TITLE!!!

How is that throwing the program under the bus?

I know there are plenty of fans who love that the program gets to Final Fours and they accept the lack of titles as the trade off-we can be consistently good, but not great.

I want both.

If it meant missing 10 Final Fours for 1Title I'd take it.

No you wouldn't. We don't make a Frozen Four for ten years, all these same posters are on here with Fire Hak, he hasn't got us to a Frozen Four in ten years, so what if he won a title eight years ago, what's he done since.

In all honesty, if he didn't win one every other year, it wouldn't be satisfactory for many of you, and that in essence, is why you get "shouted" down.

How long has it been since UND has even held a lead in a Frozen Four game?

7 years?

Since 2007 in St. Louis against BC.

At least we scored 3 goals last night.  That's one more than our last three Frozen Four trips combined.

I would say the last three F4 losses were games that UND was the "sharper" team.

A loss is a loss either way though.

Are you kidding me?! You would want 10 years of below .500 hockey, no home playoffs, no NCHC tournament; for ONE title....... That would set the program back years! I for one would rather have the chance to be contenders every year than sell ourselves out for one title!
