Top 10 Moments in Sioux History since 2000

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to put together a photo project containing the top ten moments in Sioux history since our last championships in 2000. If you have a moment that you could share it would be much appreciated! Here is a list of things that I think could make the top ten.

1. 2012 Final Five comeback vs. UM

2. 2007 West Regional Porter goal

3. 2008 MidWest Regional Kozek goal

4. 2014 Midwest Regional Gaarder goal

5. 2011 Frattin double OT final five title

Please add to the list!!!

Darcy Zajac's OT goal vs. CC to clinch the MacNaughton I believe? May not be top 10 but it's up there.

White out weekend at The Ralph sweep the rodents 6-1, 6-3... 2008 or 2009?

I was there to see that Zajac goal sitting right below the bar above the goal where he scored. You could see that coming and the crowd was on their feet. A Sunday afternoon.

All the above are great moments, but just to add a couple:

--The Kozek-led Hat Trick comeback against Mannino and Denver.

--The electric weekend UND throttled Kangas and Minnesota.

Those probably wouldn't be Top Ten moments in 15 years of Sioux hockey, but were certainly a couple among the loudest times I've heard REA in the Hak era.

From just a pure "moment" standpoint, and I can't say I was there, the first home games after Ralph passed I'm guessing are way up there.

I have not seen very many games at the new Ralph, but I was travelling to north central North Dakota with my daughter during Thanksgiving break in 2002, and we stopped in GF to catch Friday's game. It was against Mankato, and there was a copy of Virg Foss' book "Fight on Sioux" on each seat, courtesy of Sioux Hockey. I think it was the first game after Ralph died. In fact, I think he died only a day or two before. The book was not a tribute, but it is full of pics and memories and was especially appropriate.

Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 when the Sioux scored a 8-1 victory at SCSU. Mario drops the gloves against Marvin. Mario, Zajac, and MacWilliams I believe all get tossed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZyxuUI_Pg4

Great video!! That elephant quote timing was sooo funny! "Nope. That's not how you do it." Lol

A few things:

- Good lord Frattin could rip it. I miss that.

- Kristo celly up 6-0... Ummm... Bag skate? Lol. Really goes to show how much that kid grew up in his four years.

- Props to Aaron Marvin for sacking up and dropping them with Mario. Horrible decision by the refs to not let them go. Didn't this boil over during the next series, too? Let em go and let it be over with. You can see both Marvin and Mario raise their hands like, "What the hell are you doing? We wanna go!"

- Bruno!

- Eidsness' positioning, even in that short clip, makes me sad that Zane could be gone.

- Watching the St. Cloud player get restrained by his bench is hilarious.

I thought the same thing about Eidsness' position. He left an entire 1/2 of the net open.

If Zane is gone, we are going to miss him.

All of my favorites are in here :) ... Well, not all, but most.

- Frattin's hit on Whers

- Trupp's OT dive

Two great ones for me.

Trupp certainly gave us some memories. I'd have to include that brilliant diving back-check against Manitoba his freshman year. I knew we had something special in him when I saw that.

Trupp picking the puck up on his stick against UMD made the Xcel Center electric(no pun intended)

Even though he didn't score, just the confidence to do it was something I'll never forget

Easily my favorite Trupp memory! I've spent hours trying to find that video to show my wife, who fell in love with the Sioux and specifically Trupp when we got together his jr year.

Wasn't that against CC?

That was January 9-10, 2009.  UND also had good showings against the Gophers October 16, 2009 (4-0) and March 12, 2010 (WCHA best of 3 game 1, score was 6-0).  Everyone of those blowouts was absolutely fantastic to be a Sioux fan!

How could anyone forget the final home game of the year on March 17th, 2012 with the long, overdue, and much anticipated debut of Tate Maris!! Statistically the best goalie to ever play for UND. :)

This. I wasn't there, I was watching the game on TV, but you could tell how loud that building was with that first save. You could hear the roar over the announcers.
