1981-82 Season Notes
- 1982 was the second of UND's three NCAA championship in Rhode Island
- Head coach Gino Gasparini's second title came just two years after his
first
- UND met Wisconsin for the 7th time in less than two months in the title
game. The teams had split the prior six games, 3-3-0.
- Phil Sykes of Dawson Creek, B.C., scored a hat trick in his second
national championship game. It was his third hat trick of the season
against Wisconsin.
- Phil Sykes had 4 points for the second time in an NCAA Championship
game. In 1980 he had 1 goal and 3 assists.
- Sykes was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player and
was named to the All-Tournament Team.
- Future head coach of the Fighting Sioux, Dean Blais, was in his
second year as an assistant coach at North Dakota.
